And good all-seasons are much better in snow than they were 20-30-40 years ago. But when it really counts and it's snowy or icy, snow tires uber alles. Stopping and maneuvering is more important than the possible additional acceleration that AWD can provide.

X drive: more fun to drive in in summer. Can remove fuse and go full rwd. Cons: Doesn’t have center diff, instead a transfer case. Which will wear out and fail over time. Not good for snow as computer has to think before acting. If you change to aftermarket wheels transfer case can fail and bmw will void your transfer case warranty. 4matic.
