'00 E39 540i I rebuilt my trans 30k miles ago worn o-rings on #1 hub. Recently having problems with not shifting up from 3rd gear. Problem is intermittent and only happens once every day or two. I can't find that document to check range of application but I think it was applicable to all BMW engines. I've seen posts stating that all BMW engines use the same vacuum spec; although these are 3rd party, not BMW documents. Anyway 10 to 15 mbar = 4" to 6" water column. JimLev quotes 3-5. Perhaps someone can verify whether the V8 is different. The 535i produced 235hp and 243lb ft of torque, the 540i’s 4.4-litre V8 produced 286hp and 310lb ft – 15lb ft more than the E34 version could muster and produced at 3900rpm – 600rpm earlier. BMW uses a remote oil filter housing on their V8 engines. The external oil filter housing is mounted on the driver side of the engine compartment towards the front behind the headlight assembly. It also contains an oil pressure switch mounted at the base of the assembly. The housing is rubber mounted to the body of the car.
